After 2 years I finally put my the fresh V-job heads & new cam/lifters, T-set, etc.. back in my 396 [ 1970 402 .030 over] .

Broke in on outers and used all correct precautions [SWEATON] and ran an easy [under 3000 rpm] 150 miles and put the inners in.

After just over 400 miles so far all is GOOD!!

Cut filter after first 1/2 hr B-in looked like moly lube on paper hardley any metal or shinny stuff.

I will change oil again real soon and check filter too.

I used Valvoline NSL 10w30 and crane break-in lube .
I choose NSL for break-in as it has less detergent than VR1 but all the ZDDP.

It does idle kinda rougher than old cam and [both are fairly rough] does seem to have a little more power but the track will tell that.

My old cam I installed in 1988 was a crane 134561 w/99277 lifters [ used from a buddy]
same as new but lsa of 114 and a tade more exhaust lift.

The new cam is a crane 134551
Old NOS 99277 lifters
lsa 110
dur @ 50 236/246
551/571
99893 duel springs per card and height set

I did get on it and pulls thur 5700-5800+ in third I shifted into 4th and slowed as this was not at the track just a 3 mile straight in the country but I will wait for the track to really get on it.

Brett,nice job!!!!

Good choice for NSL on breakin that has almost no detrgent, but post breakin you can switch to valvolines VR1 that has same zddp lvl but also has a street /zddp friendly -reasonable detergent lvl that should not interfear and or inhibit the zddp's ability to do its job.

Thanks Guys,

Daniel,
I have a had everything for the past 2+ years just sitting waiting to be installed.
I have had the '67 close to 30 years now,
and the few years sitting with out the mill between the fenders seamed long enough!
