I need to fill some small pits in metal pillar trim. It's been sandblasted and primed (I didn't want it to flash rust).

What do I use for filler? And does it go direct to metal or over the primer?

Sorry if this belongs in paint and body. I'm guessing there is some sort of lightweight filler I should use in this situation that maybe wouldn't be used for exterior body work.

You may be able to fill pin hole type pits with multiple primer coats. Sanding between coats till the pin hole is filled.

Otherwise you need "Glazing Putty" which is a lower viscosity lightweight body filler.

I used glazing putty to fill the pits in my headlight trim rings and some of the bed trim on my 70 EC. Then I painted it all with chrome paint. Not a bad look but the chrome paint does need a clear coat for protection.

epoxy primer and then use a 2 part glaze. NOT the tube glazing putty.
Read the epoxy tech sheet to be sure it allows filler over the epoxy.

I have used 2 part body fillers over bare metal for many years. do that if you want then prime.
