I've been trying to accquire a pair of fender extensions for my 71 el camino whose front end was damaged in a collision.

goodmark has been pretty good in delivering most the parts i need, but a couple things have been backordered, most importantly the fender extensions. these are the small sheetmetal pieces in which the headlamps and side markers sit inside, if you guys aren't familiar.

i really need these pieces to finish the body work, but every place i look for does not carry this part for el caminos. places like opgi, year one, paddock, etc, list it for a 71 chevelle, but not el camino. i thought nearly all sheetmetal parts in front of the windshield are interchangeable on these cars?

so: are the fender extensions really not interchangeable on a 71 chevelle, elcamino? can i buy the chevelle part and modify it to fit? or better yet, can anyone point me to a place where i can buy them?

thanks alot

thanks for the tip blubu  i was actually semi-aware of that, since when i ordered em from goodmark, the note on the part said "71 chevelle except el-camino & wagon"

don't know why it listed that part under 71 el-co parts then, but if it's mutually exclusive for wagons too, it would logically follow that the wagon part works for the el-co, right?

this is the first place i found a return for 71 el camino fender extension.

DA10330 $199.00 Buy
1971-1972 Chevelle, Malibu, El Camino Front fender extension - LH (GS-FE03-71EL)

the price seems about right, but saying it works for chevelle just throws it off

arggh...

Ground Up has them listed for $148 each. Kind of spendy, but you might call them and see if they ahve them in stock. Good Luck.

Edit: Nevermind, those are for Chevelle...

alright, looks like my el-co will be getting them extensions after all! :hurray:

thanks for all the help, guys. it would have been nice to get em from one of big-box restoration retailers, but i guess i can wait just a little bit and get some OE pieces at a decent price

what is the difference between the chevelle and el camino fender extensions? I always thought the front ends on each car were identical

thanks for bringing that up, savage, because i was just gonna show you guys ;)

the fender extensions from goodmark, the ones that they told me are wrong for my el-co and told me that had deleted from my order? i got them

it's a great chance to show you how they don't fit

they also showed me another part i need, this bracket that the grille connects to. i circled it in red. i think it's backordered already, or i forgot it? can anyone positively ID this piece for me?

i also saw how one of the body shop guys welded a hook onto the frame. he said this aided him in the frame straightening and that they can get cut off after they're done. is this standard practice?

The ones from a 72 will work as well, the difference between a 71 and 72 fender extension is just the lens, trim ring around it and the head light trim pieces. I had a 72 and had to use a 71 fender extension on the left side. I found out that the front sheet metal on a wagon isn't the same as a sedan the hard way.

yup...i found out the hard way too, Q-ship

Dick at True Connections has the parts in stock.

he has 1970 el camino extensions, and the 71-72 chevelle extensions which we found out don't work. the price would be pretty good, but it looks like 72Mike will be able to get me the extensions i need

let me re-post this pic from the other page because i need to find out what it's called. this connects to the radiator support, and it is near the fender extension.

can anyone ID what this bracket is called, please?
