Finally getting around to starting the restoration of my 71 LS5 M22 car and was wondering if there was a particular person or persons who have studied the 71's in depth?

For instance the car was built first week of Sept (1970) and the build sheet shows it with the std 4 blade fan. BUT... the earliest date on the 71/72 fan part # 3989093 I have found is Jan 1971

So that begs the question, on these very early first cars was GM using existing parts ( ie no number 1970 fans) until the new parts were produced and phased in?

In other restoration "communities" I have been involved in large mfrs called these " floor sweep" builds...

Any data on these early 71s out there?

Thanks folks

Problem solved! First of all I mistyped the date in the original post so it was confusing. (I fixed that).

More importantly I was able to find an early dated '093 fan! Talk about needle in haystack.

AMA specs list 4-blade fans as standard, while a/c cars used staggered 7-blade fans. The stillborn LS6 would've used 5 blades.

Among the 4-blades fans, the following diameters are given: sixes were 17.62", 307 & 350s were 19", 402s & LS5 454s were 18"..

I'm not seeing K02 Thermostatic Fan as a standalone factory option for '71. It would be a dealer option that takes 4 bolts to swap. It was included on C60 a/c cars and had 7 staggered blades.
