I have a 70 el camino and have the hideous long square speedometer and the idiot lights below. What I want to do is take that out and fabricate an aluminum panel with the all new gauges. Has anyone done this and if so have pics of it. How difficult was it, and any woes to watch for. Thanks.

It's been done. I made a panel for Uncle's Chevelle out of aluminum. You can also use plexiglas. But you have to run Autometer Street Rod Series gages if you want to retain the part of the panel that houses the idiot lights and turn signal indicators.

I still have the template. I don't have access to the aluminum, but I can make a cardboard template that you can transfer to the material of your choice.
