In order to keep originality is it possible to rebuild an externally regulated altenator to produce higher amps than was standard in 70? Say go from 61amp? to 110amp? Thanks Pete

Pete,
The regulator has nothing to do with the amperage of the alternator. It only switches the alternator on and off when the battery voltage drops.
Many vehicles had higher amperage alternators in those days, mostly large Caddy's, trucks etc. You should go talk to an Automotve Electric shop and see if they can rewind the alternator to a higher output. It might not be physically possible without changing the entire alternator.
Hope this helps,

Thanks guys appreciate the response. I'll check with a shop and let you all know what the outcome is. Pete
