The main news today was a 79 malibu that exploded when rear-ended by a drunk driver. I have seen reports on the dangers of the early mustangs (besides the obvious) but I had never heard of a problem with the chevelle/malibu.
What do you know?

Here is what I know, hit anything hard enough with 20 gallons of gas in the back, sooner or later it will blow up. It's like the staged chevy truck gas tank explosions, put a spark plug in the tank and set it off when a vehicle smacks the side of the truck, boom! That was on national tv!

How long should GM be liable? The pinto deal is different, Ford knew this was a problem early and refused to fix it. The GM truck gas tanks meet all the federal regs for side impact, there were 5 million on the road, how long????

$5 Billion-with a B- Had to be a california jury. Remember lawyers always chase the money. The drunk probably didn't have enough insurance to pay their country club bill. Now GM thats BIG BUCKS!
