I recently installed a new set of headers 1 3/4" x 3". These are Hedmans with the ball and socket flange. The connectors that came with the headers reduce the diameter to 2 1/2". Will this cause a restriction with 3" pipes? I was thinking of replacing the exhaust anyway since mine was kind of cobbled together anyway. I was considering a 2 1/2" because I really want to run tailpipes out the back and didn't want to have to fight it. Does anyone know of any good exhaust kits that come already set up for the ball and flange reducers?

Well, you can use the 2 1/2 collectors and run your 2 1/2 exhaust or buy a set of 3" collectors from Hedman and use them and a 3" exhaust.

Personally, if it is the 350 cu inch - I'd go with the 2 1/2" all the way back. I don't think you will be able to connect the 3" to the 2 1/2 collector without getting into the bolt area and I think it would be a waste of time to try.

Just my opinion.

Hedman has the 3" collector adapters available. JMHO, I would run 3" off the headers into a 3" in/out muffler, then drop to 2-1/2" tails. I have 3" all the way back, tailpipe fit was tight but does work. I used Flowmaster 3" 2-pc tails. The 2-pc design makes it easy to install and align the tails.

I am running headers down to a 3" collector that was connected to my exhaust pipes through a flange but i removed all of that, and just had them straight welded.
I know a lot of people don't recommend, but i was tired of having to tighten those bolts all the time from underneath the car.
The exhaust is 2.5 but the collector is 3". They just got a 3" pipe and welded it to the 3" and the other side welded to the 2.5 works for me.

I'd maintain the collector size all the way to the secondary junction. Not much point in having a short piece of 3" pipe in an otherwise 2-1/2" system.
