I have a 72 chevelle w/ the SS dash and has a factory tach in it that is not hooked up. I was told the tach has two posts on the back of it. One of them has a ground wire and you can run a wire from the negative of the coil to the other post and bypass all the plugs and connectors. Is this correct?

Yes you can bypass the circuit card. The posts are marked. One gets switched (ign) power, driver side. The other connects to the coil. The tachs metal back is or needs to be grounded.

I've soldered jumpers into broken PC boards, but never for a car. Not yet anyway.
