I am at a NAVY school and today was the "Confidence Chamber" also called the gas chamber. We have to go in with our masks on then once the gas was lit off we removed the mask and had to say the sailors creed. Nobody got past the forst 3 words before we were in total agony. They kept us there for about 3 minutes and let us out to the fresh air. It passes pretty quick once we got outside. Let me tell you that stuff HURTS!!!

I'm sure it works much better in a chamber than out in the open.

My father had a starter pistol he thought had blanks in it. Fired it in the house, turned out to be tear gas rounds. Not much gas but still stung a little. :)

Many Times.... Every year from 1985 to 1991 when I was in Mobile TAC Unit. Then the Air Force changed its training requirements to Chemical, Nuclear, Biological, First Aid, Decon and UXO Detection (CNBC)... After that every 5 years you face the chamber and now they changed it again to before you deploy or 2 year which every comes first...

The amount of CS gas use in training is not full strength. It is just enough to aggravate your respiratory system. Full strength CS gas will knock you on your a$$. Even holding your breath the gas will get into everything...

They did about the same thing to me in the army, 40 years ago. We went in with the mask on, and we all were to take them off, and after a short time, they said we would be out side. What happend, one of the guys dropped his. The sargent, with his mask on, yelled at him, and told him to pick it up, and no one would go outside till he did. Believe me, you can't see anything, seem like it took him for ever to find it, every one was pissed. That stuff is something else. I'll never forget it.

Pepper spray was worse especially the lingering effects but I dont want to try either one again:noway: The day they tell me I have to get shot so I know what it feels like I am handing in my retirement letter:D

Yes, many times and it never gets any better. It was worse in Boot Camp of course, and the higher in rank I go, the worse it feels. :)
My first time I didnt pay attention in the class before and we werent allowed to leave the chamber until we got a question right or went down. I got helped out:D needless to say I was glued to everyword the instructors had to say from that day out.

I have one hell of a headache now

Yep, in 1970 went into a chamber in basic training. Everyone got to sing happy birthday to make sure they were not holding their breath. Lots of tears, drooling and some guys puked. Next part was learning to use the anti-chemical injectors. Big A needle to go through multiple layers of clothing into your thigh. Everyone got to try a dummy. Lots of ow's and one guy fainted. Same principle as the bee sting kits. Have fun...

Ha, I volunteered to go through twice at BCT. The more exposure you have, the more immune your body will become to the effects.

Welcome to the club! The chamber is one of the few things that I have a vivid memory of from Army basic training at Fort Jackson in 1983; that and the unrelenting heat and humidity of South Carolina in August.

Amen!! I think pepper spray is much worse than that CN or CS gas. I'll take the gas any day over the pepper spray. Thankfully, I don't have to recertify with this stuff very often.

Years AND years ago, already outta highschool and on the RR about '67 or so we were up at Kirksville, MO at a place south of town on the west side of the 4-lane called the Oasis!

Just your average, run of the mill, "ANIMAL HOUSE" roadhouse back then when some SOB out on the PACKED dance floor shot off a couple of squirts of MACE!!

Talk about cleaning the place out!!

Now, mind you, MACE was new back then!!

And just before the Band was singing "Louie, Louie" and everybody was really getting it on................

My girlfriend later wife just about sh-t when all h-ll broke loose, He, He!!

We soon left.....

Not where I was. Tank Hill March of 1988, Ft Jackson. We had this Gigantoid that played college ball who went berzerk and started tossing Drills around like they were toys. We were in there a LOOOOOONNNNNNG time.

From Feb to May between -98 and -06 I stood in the camber once a week.....I'm a CRBN specialist in in the NoRAF. I left the Air force 5 months ago and can't say I'll miss the chamber, but the rest of it I'll miss every day.
The only thing that was worse than the tear gas was pepper spray, DAMN that s**t hurt:mad:
