Winter is slowly approaching, I have both of my fenders stripped and ready for some metal work. I have some area that need to be welded/pounded out/and rust patches installed. The back sides need to be cleaned up and painted as well.

I'm wondering if I should get the bare metal in epoxy before doing this work??

I forgot to mention we have another little one arriving in Dec, so once the baby is born, I'm not sure how much garage time I'll have. :)

Yeah, that's what I've always done.

You'll need to reApply the eposy afterward, since that work will inevitably leave bare metal, but it will stop a lot of the surface rusting as the lovely witner fog settles in pretty soon...

I epoxied my car before the metal work, then again after. I used PPG's Omni MP 175 (I think). It was about $65 for a gallon setup (which is really a gallon and a half). I know a guy that's had a 65 Impala sitting outside for the last three years in nothing but the omni epoxy with no problems.

My car sat in the garage for 6 months in bare metal. We had a fairly humid summer here on top of it. There were no signs of surface rust anywhere. I gave it a thorough going over with the DA just prior applying my Epoxy. FYI, the SPI epoxy is an etch epoxy so it will bite in real well.
