Hi yesterday I tried to srar my 69 chevelle and heard the engine tryin to turn over then nothing.

Hooked up jumper cables and it starts with a boost, once started runs fine no problem. After running it for 30 min shutoff car and now it wont start again.

Just put a brand new battery 3 months age.

What else should I check? I think battery is drained and not holding chargen please advise.

Omer

Your battery is most like;y defective. If you were me, you would charge it for a few hours and load test it. If you are not me, pull it and drop it off at a DIY chain for charging and testing. If the batt checks out good, look very closely at you batt terminals and connections. Look hard to make sure you got the hottest rated battery for the hole you are filling in that tray. I am a huge fan of DelcoPro series and Optima when I am felling ballerish.

Drive it to the auto parts store. They can test the battery and the charging system for you. Sounds like you don't have the tools to do this yourself. It could be the battery, it could also be the alt is not charging the battery back up once it's running. Once it's started a drained battery can still put out enough to run the ignition.

Jump starting the car and running it for 30 mins will not recharge your battery, you need to have it recharged with a battery charger. After its fully charged the bat should be tested to see if its able to hold a charge. Most likely cause of a dead battery is either its defective or you have a drain on your electrical system thats drawing voltage while the car is off.A 2-3 amp drain will kill your battery in a couple of days or a week.

If you have a voltmeter, check the batt voltage with the car off. If less than 12.8 to 13.4 or so it is low. Jump start the car and check. With the engine running and alt working you should have at least 13 or 13.5 to 14.8 volts. If not, the alt is not charging.

If not charging, look at replacing the alt. If charging, check the wiring, grounds, and if good, replace the battery.

Hi guys thanjs for all the help, I checked my connections and theybwere pretty loose, one of the bolts was pretty rusted replaced it and tightened terminals charged battery and started right up. Shut the engine off and it started right back up.

I will leave it off and see if the battery drains out. It could just have been loose connections.

Thanks again I appreciate all your guidance.
