Hi all!

I still have the original 250 inline 6 engine on my E C, but it´s in a bad shape, so I´ll swap it. I found a reasonably priced used 305 and I´m considering to buy it.

I´m not so familiar with v8 engines and even more not familiar with all the possible ways to make it better.
So I need your help. Here´s what´s in the deal;

V8 305 engine (possibly 1978 - 79 year model) with
-Weiand 7546-intake manifold
-Edelbrock 600 cfm carbuteror
-X-racer Hei-distributor
-new waterpump

It´s still mounted on a 1937 Nash and the owner says that if it has not been driven for few days, it smokes a bit after starting it.

So, what do you think.
Is this compination good at all, or am I stupid to buy it?

Here´s a few pics of it too.

I really hope you have some input...

Hey there, Marko- The 305 part of the deal is fine... But the fact that it smokes is a deal-breaker for me... It sounds like you'll be in the same situation very soon with the V8. Wait for something that's more solid. Just my .02.

If the smoke is only at start-up and the oil consumption is low, then it is likely in need of new seals on the intake valves. Those are not difficult to do and they cost very little.
This is what I think and also what the seller says. So this part is not a problem.

But what do you think about the intake / carb / distributor combo them being aftermarket parts?

That's likely, yep- But I wouldn't pull the trigger until I made sure. And yes, the combo seems OK!

Hold out for a 350, you'll be glad you did....
Maybe, but I quess then I would need to change the brakes (which are newly restored), front suspension and maybe even some other parts. No, I´ll stick with the 305...
Also I have thm 200 transmission and I think it´s better with 305, woudn´t you say?

if your considering swapping from the inline 6 to the 305 that is a waste of time and money....

I would rather just keep the L6...build that so its more reliable.

the aftermarket parts on there are nothing special...

Hold out for a engine a lil more desirble and worthwhile..

327, 350 hell maybe even a Big block...

good luck

you do not need to change susp, brakes, etc...it all depends on how you want to drive ur car.
