Hello everyone.
I have a freshly re-built 396 in my '72 Chevelle. When I turn the car off after a fairly long commute to work (20 miles or so) I notice that there is smoke comming from the engine (bottom, I think). It is not a tremendous ammount of smoke, but enough to worry me. The guy that I bought the car from says that the engine has done that for a while, and not to worry about it, just keep an eye on the oil!
What do you guys think?
Thanks

Sounds like oil is leaking around something like the valve cover gaskets, oil pan, etc., and when the engine gets hot it is burning off. Although if it were my car I would fix the leaks, leaks like this are more of a nusicance than a problem, and should not cause any big problems as long as you keep an eye on the engine oil level, as the guy you brought the car from suggested.
