Have any of you guys tryed to set the engine back with a stock style suspension and stock style motor mounts? Nothing crazy just a inch or two.

Have any of you guys tryed to set the engine back with a stock style suspension and stock style motor mounts? Nothing crazy just a inch or two.

Kind of like a Corvette? I would think the distributor (cap) would hit the firewall. I've had a few mid-year vettes and if I recall, the firewall was "notched out" so the engine could sit back a few inches and there was room for the dizzy.

Not sure if it's possible without a lot of modifications.

Distributor/ firewall issues
Headers could be an issue
Shortend driveshaft needed
Transmission crossmember modification
Transmission bellhousing could hit firewall

I guess anything is possible with enough determination and deep pockets:yes:

Yes, mine is moved back. My motor mounts are welded to the crossmember. If I recall we took about anout 2" out of the driveshaft but it was along time ago.

That was for a ls1. I did do a search after I made the post. Didnt think of it before. From what I read you dont really get much better weight distribution just setting it back a inch or two.

Way back in the 1968 ear, a ONE INCH set back was worth over a full tenth of a second on a BB Camaro. It is worth more than you might think, especially if it does not cost too much.
