Im tryinh to decode this engine pad # T033IJA Ive looked and it is an I and not a 1 after the 33. Anyone have any ideas. A JA is a 69 396 but what is an IJA or did someone make a mistake with an I when it should have been a 1 because there should be an additional number with the second 3?

The letter I was used for some of the stampings of the number 1. I have seen it used on several blocks. Looks like a March 31 1969 assembled Manual Trans 325 Hp 396 from the codes. does the block have a VIN on stamped on the pad with the assembly code? Is it the original motor to your chevelle, if not I can check my list, if there is a VIN, and see if i have any info. Take care, Andy

The VIN may be stamped down by the oil filter.

I keep lists for the 69 plants and have a few thousand total entires I check. The vin you mentioned is not in my list but I added it in case something shows up in the future. The Chevelle it came from was an April first week Build (04A) and from Baltimore as mentioned. I am always on the look out for new entries and I will accept orphaned documents and parts, engines. and transmissions, as well as trying to record the sale of tags that have been removed. I welcome anyone running across info to contact me directly so I can add the data and of course it is always up to the owner whether or not I get the info. take care Andy
