Hello,
I just purchased another 71 Chevelle for parts, included was an engine with the following #'s stamped on the front pad...CE 175558...can anyone help me with figuring out where this engine came from and what is it's characteristics? The back of the block casting #'s are 3969854
Thank You

According to Cars and Parts Magazine Catalog of Chevy V-8 Casting Numbers 1955-1993, 3969854 is a 402 block.

69-72 Passenger, Chevelle, Camaro 4BC 2 and 4 bolt main 402

70 Nova 2 and 4 bolt main 402

70-72 truck 2 and 4 bolt main 400,402

I'm not sure about the stanped numbers.

CE stands for Counter Exchange. This was a GM dealer exchanged under warranty block assembly. The numbers are either the last six digits of the VIN of the car it was installed in our just a sequence number.
