BBC i recently inherited from my father I'm not real sure what i have. he always loved this engine and was saving it for something special that he never found. anyways if someone can help me please I've not been been able to come up with much info about it through hours of searching. casting numbers are 3999289 4 bolt main. shows to be 454 block.
stamping on the front is where I'm having trouble CE555862 can't really find out much on this. its has dimple rods with 7/16 rod bolts. it also has 990 rec port heads.

Ok thanks for the help y'all its led me to researching counter engines, or some people call them crate engines.
so am i correct in thinking theres no way to prove what this might of been installed in?
Also could this be a L88 short block crate engine? it has giant dome pistons in it that say GM TRW on the bottom.
Along with the dimple rods and 7/16 rod bolts?

Counter engines are not considered crate engines as they were supplied by the manufacturer to be used for warranty exchange. For it to be a real L88 short block it will have to have a 7115 Crank, 3969804 connecting rods (purple & green ink marks) with tin coated small ends and 12.2:1 50cc domed pistons with full floating pins. That is an original 1969 Corvette L88 complete engine in the pic of the rods. As far as what it might have been installed in it's anyone guess but an L88 would have gone in a Corvette.

Correct, no way to prove what it might have gotten installed in.

More likely to be 454" LS-6(450hp 454)or LS-7(sold as over-the-counter "offroad"(race) performance), ...especially since you said 990 heads
