Hey everyone new to this board. My father, after years of searching for his 1967 Chevelle SS he has always wanted, recently purchasd a 1966 Chevelle SS instead. I am helping my dad search into the history of this vehicle as he is computer illiterate and this is actually pretty fun for me anyway. My dad provided me with two codes off of the engine and I am having issue finding anything on either of the codes. This is not the original engine so I am trying to figure out what exactly he has under the hood. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance..

Welcome to TC.
Theere's 2 posibilities:
TRW 74 454 Truck 245 LS-4 TH-400 4-Brl C-20 & C-30, 4X4
TRW 79 454 Truck 210 LF-8 TH-400 4-Brl C 20, 4X4
You'll need the casting date to determine which it is -likely the 74 from the part VIN:

Thanks for the information Mike. Passed the information over to my dad. He is gonna take a look at the casting number next to determine for sure what he has. He'll probably be replacing this motor anyway he just wanted to know what the BB actually was. Again I appreciate the help.

if the engine is in decent shape, throw some closed chamber heads on that shortblock to get the compression up and a modest performance cam. Drive it til it croaks.

If needing a full rebuild, some mild domed pistons are in order.
What are the cyl head casting numbers? VERY LIKELY YOU WILL HAVE GOOD 781 OR 049 CASTINGS.
