Doing a Body Off on a 72 Chevelle. While dis-assembling the rear axle from the frame I discovered the LH side lower shock mounting hole on the Axle is elongated (see Photo). The RH side was perfectly round.

Is this a problem? If so, any ideas on how it can be repaired?

Thanks,
Bob

Maybe a loose shock over time caused the hole to open up.

I would fill the bottom of the hole in with weld, grind it smooth/flat on both sides and re-drill hole, once painted you will never know it was there.

If I was doing a frame off, I'd be doing this ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ (and even if I wasn't doing a frame off, I'd still do this ^ ^ ^ ) :D

you left out the duct tape..

jb weld/jb weld/jb weld/ sold in auto parts stores and even wal mart !!!!! We used this on one of our track cars (a 68 ' 10 second car) with flat washers that ripped the left rear shock absorber out at the track solved problem . Most professionals and classic car owners know of jb weld !!!!!!!!! Bob Rizzi/Rzzi's Auto Parts

No, do not use JB weld...

Weld the lower part and grind it smooth. Its the right way to do it. Welding washers would work fine, just doesnt look quite as nice.
