Hi, there my friend has a 68 chevelle that he is haing problem with it. When he starts it the smaller wire from the neg side of the battery starts to melt. Then after a couple times the wire melts though. So he doesn't take it to far. Is there anyone out there with some information on this problem? Has a new re-man motor put in last year. Also have new wires from the battery to the block and new pos wire to the starter. Then put another new wire from block to frame. But the smaller wire from the neg side melts.

Sounds like you are missing the ground strap from the block to the firewall (chassis). Especially after a new motor install these are easy to forget.

I am not completely sure on the Buick. But in general you will need the following setup.

1) Large Ground cable from battery to GOOD connection on block.
2) At least one, preferrably two, ground straps from the valve cover(s) to the firewall (chassis).
3) One ground strap from the block to the frame.
