Ok guys its winter and I'm looking to get an electric fan for the chevelle.

anyone tried or have any opinions on any of these??

http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=sitemap2.asp&N=115+400006

or the derale 16834 2700 cfm or the 16928 4000cfm
the perma cool is 2950 cfm

http://www.derale.com/electricfans.shtml

I did not have a problem cooling my car but I have a high flow water pump on the way and I would like to clean up the engine bay as well.

The 16928 derale is a 50amp draw the 16834 is a 21 amp and the perma cool is 10 amp.

What do you think??

actually after measuring itlooks like I may be stuck with the perma-cool. My aluminum rad is only 20 3/4" X 18" so space is a limit.

I guess my next question is will the 2950 cfm do the job if I have not had any probs with a flex fan? Also will a 65 amp alt do the job if this only pulls 10 amps??

We use Taurus fans in our Novas, and they fit very well on a smaller radiator.

Late 80's, early 90's off the 3.8L models. It's a 2-speed fan, low speed is enough cooling for all but the hottest engines. We've put them on several cars, including a blown 355" Datsun, a 331" road racing Nova, a 406" Elky and a 406" Nova bracket car. Here's an article about some Mustang guys that installed one:

im using a dual fan from a 90's v6 taurus sho on my 66. it fits my rad perfectly, and is slim enough to fit in between the big block and the rad.

i cut the original mounting tabs off and made some sheetmetal L brackets and pop riveted them to the shroud, these brackets bolt to the existing mounts that the original shroud was mounted on. i then slit some 3/8s rubber fuel line sections and slipped them on the edges of the shroud to act as a cushion so the shroud wouldnt damage the rad core.

this dual fan has one 2 speed motor and one small one speed motor for the a/c. what i did was swap the small motor for another 2 speed motor, so both are now the big 2 speed. i did have to enlarge the holes on the mouning tabs on the motor, and had to play with the alignment so the fan itself didnt rub the shroud, but overall it was very easy.

i will warn you though, you will need to upgrade your alternator. with one fan running it draws the voltage down to about 14 to 14.2 volts which is good. but with both fans running it sucks it all the way down to 13 volts, and thats with no other electrical accessories running .

this fan really moves some air, it will damn near suck my hand to the front side of the radiator!

technically i dont think the motors themselves are really 2 speed. on mine 2 of the three prongs were joined internally (i know because i opened them), they actually used a resistor for the low speed. i still have the resistor but am not using it, so both of my fans are only one speed.

have you ever opened any of the motors up and looked inside to see?

Nice job on the fram off ... alot of work on that ride ,

you have a lot of time invested in that ride ... dont cheepen it up.
if your looking for quality .. Spal twin 11 inch fans are a nice unit ...they have 12 rubber presure releaf doors for cruse speed .
Isee the dimentions of your rad ...the spall twin 11may not fit the core .. so heres another option

keep in mind your alt may have to be up graded for any fan units
the twin 11 pulls 20 amps at start up for each fan about 17 during run
2800 cfm the street sweeper .. keep small animals and children away .

here's a post of a t/c member that installed one of the units

They have no resistors inside the motor, just two windings. You can actually run the fan by applying power between the low and high speed connections.

mine dont have two windings, and no matter which terminal i use they both run at the same speed. they are the supposed two speed motors, they're made by siemens and have 3 prongs. i also have a set of fans off a 99+ taurus and they are the same way, 3 prongs with 2 joined internally, 1 set of windings and one speed.

have you actually taken them apart to verify they have two windings? or are you guessing?

I ran some fans that moved aprox 2500cfm and I really wasn't happy with the cooling even though I didn't run a high flow water pump. You'll need something that'll move more then 3000 cfm IMO. Taurus fans are nice I had some and they were awesome. Best place to find these windstar/taurus fans is ebay.

I get a lot of them from the local boneyard, about $25 each.
