I just put on an aux. fan and decided to spend the $50 and get the fancy thermostatic control switch. The fan is a Derale Tornado and the switch kit is from Permacool, 160-210* adjustable turn on. Has a "probe" that inserts into the radiator fins. I have the switch set at 160 just to test it.

I mounted the fan and gave it a direct 12volts and it works fine. But with the fancy therm switch it doesn't work. Its just not clicking over. My engine has a 195* stat and a water temp gauge so I know that thing should turn on.

Seems that 12v are getting to the (Module) thing but from there to the fan there is nothing.

Any suggestions?

Might heat up a glass of water in the microwave and stick the probe in it and make sure it works.

Is the probe on the front or back of the rad? If on front, the air might be cooling it off.

Might also try some of the heat conducting grease, like what you attach heatsinks to computer chips with, if the "probe" is flat.

I'll try the glass of water trick

The probe is in the back of the radiator and I have only garage tested it. It gets pretty hot running in the garage. Motor opens the 195* stat and the gauge reads 200* at times. I figure it should be good enough to set the fan off.

The probe is a little stick that is about 2.5" long. You're supposed to insert it between the fins.

Thanks for the reply
