HEllo,
I have 1 1971 chevelle that has a 454 motor the motor came out of a 1993 suburban it was already converted over to a carb and i just recently changed from points to electric distributor. not sure what intake is on it now but it also has a 1405 edelbrock carb but i would like to put on a new edelbrock intake and mabey a new carb but im not sure what intakes will fit i really like the victor jr they say it will fit a 454 big block i just dont know if it will fit a suburban. Also on teh carb could i go any higher than the 1405? I would like to start adding a little power to it mostly just cruise but would like a little more hhhmpp when i wanted it any idea's or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If the engine from the 93 Suburban is stock, installing a Victor Jr is not likely to improve performance. You will need to do a little more research into what is in your Chevelle before making changes. Know for sure what intake is on the car now, is the camshaft stock, what's the rear end gear ratio, are the transmission and converter stock.

Yea the motor is still stock only change to the motor was it being converted to carb. The intake im not 100% sure what brand it is i do know it has the correct firing order on the top on the intake. Everything else on the car is still stock only changes to the car was putting that motor in it.... the transmission i thought was a 350 turbo or something of that sort i cant really remember.

Best eeeeeeziest cheeeeepest intake that will make a HUGE difference, is a stock 396 intake; or equiv, like Edelbrock Performer.

Notice how on the intake you have, the carb flange is BELOW the valve cover flange.

Which means, the air flows DOWN through the carb, does a 180°, flows UP, then turns back DOWN again 180° to get into the head ports. 2 COMPLETE 180° turns. This can't be good.

All you need is an intake that's not upside-down.

NOT a Vic Jr. That would be a total mismatch in every way from every angle at every scale to the motor you're putting it on. FRACTALLY WRONG.

Get up under the car and LOOK at the trans so you know what it is. Not that it's particularly important to the intake question; but, sooner or later you're going to HAVE TO know FOR SURE what it is.

If you are looking at making future modifications (heads and cam) you might just as well buy an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap. If you're not going to be tearing into the engine and just sticking with bolt on stuff, then the Performer is good enough.

Ok so the edlebrock performer would be my best choice? and i found out bout the trans ...a 350 powerglide... any help with what carb and any other ideas that would add some power like i said its all stock
If it's a Suburban motor, it probably has the peanut port heads, unless you get lucky and it has the Vortec ovals on it. If it has the former, then a set of well prepped 781, 049 or 820 heads would wake it up. The 820's, with their smaller chambers, would provide some increased CR to help it out. I have a set of 820's that already have the 2.19 intakes installed and have had some bowl blending done on them that I could be talked out of, if you decide to go in that direction. Of course, that would probably lead you into a hotter cam, and things just tend to snowball from there. Everyone on this forum knows ALL about that! ;)
