This auction just jumped from a bid of like $24K to $35K and met reserve in a matter of a day.. Like I always say, I don't care if they are worth it and I don't think this one is.... but makes me love what I got and gives me the peace of mind in the value dept.... of mine anyway

It's an AUTOMATIC, not frame off, and.. well.. still needs work.. but a shoe for every foot I guess.. wonder if it will go much higher??

I know you know your 66's. But where does it need work?

Maybe a little attention to the paint on the fender exentions, maybe a little clean up in the grill, maybe a lot in the engine compartment and maybe a little trunk and dash freshening, but it looked a pretty nice to me. :)

I aways expect to freshen the engine compartment whenever I buy a car.

I'll say this though, Black on Black with hubcaps and redlines is tasty.

Wait a minute.... Wasn't 67 the first year for Redlines?

I would say overall this is a very nice car, but I'll leave the "inticacies" to Mike the 66 guru :waving:

In my opinion I can see this car going into the $40K's without too much trouble. I think the only thing holding it back will be the automatic. A four speed might bring it up close to the $60K mark. Bottom line is that quality 66 SS's have exceptional value.

Just my Canuck two pennies worth.

Nope. Had 'em in '66.

Nice car for sure. A nice black paint job can really hypnotize people. As Mike said, it's VERY nice but usually only the super nice, frame-off, factory-correct, orig-restored cars get bid that high. A 4 spd and a 360 HP motor, and who knows how high this thing would go! Lotsa time left too. Makes me feel real good about mine. :)

That's a lot of maybes for the price :D and I guess you just pointed out some stuff, but there is so much detail stuff that is wrong... engine bay needs much attention, looks like the undercarriage saw a Walmart special on Black Spray can paint.. splash pan under grill too, cracked wood wheel, chrome doesn't have that BAM!!.. Redlines are correct for a 66, but these do not look like the correct Redlines for this car, size wise. The whole car just looks like it was SPRUCED UP.. like one of those Make Over Shows on Oprah, ....Nice car, definitely.. but given it is an AUTOMATIC with a base 325hp engine and not restored to the NEXT LEVEL as they say...I'd say it's selling above or just about at top level now.. but let er go higher... I love it!!!

Thank heaven for correct spackle paint. :clonk:

Gotta love dealers though...red line 7.75x14 tires were standard on the SS, not an option, clock in the console was standard with the console, not an option. Didn't think the 66 console had seat belt retainer clips though. - Mike

I am far from a resto guy, but regarding the following statement;

"correct, #'s matching 396ci 325hp engine which runs like a dream. It also has the original transmission and rear end."

Does that mean that it may not have the original engine, but a #'s matching engine? You can re-stamp any block to make the #'s match correct? It says the trans and rear were "orignial". Does not say the motor was original though.

DALE

As I am sure you know, automatic consoles also got the Seatbelt Clips..and I am sure you have seen this on 67's.. ie., both 4 speed and auto consoles with seatbelt clips. 66 4 speed consoles never received seatbelt clips.. but as to whether a 66 automatic console did... I can only say, I have not seen any... and better question.. is this a 66 or 67 automatic console?? I think it is one of many issues..

I still feel he has tires on this car that are incorrect...

Jim

I didn't mention that.. b/c I am trying to not analyze verbage too much.. but it didn't get missed by my eyes for sure.. they found it easy to say ORIGINAL for the the other items throughout the drivetrain and elsewhere about the car, but the engine gets the word CORRECT

Why does someone paint/do a groundup resto. on a car and not clean up the engine bay.. maybe b/c they never even yanked the engine out for the paint job  spruced up....I bet this car doesn't look half as good in person.. just my opinion.

MIKE: I know 67s were suppose to have the seat belt retainer clips on both automatic and manual consoles but wasn't sure about 66 auto or manual. I know I see a LOT of non-retainer clip consoles in 67 Chevelles so maybe real 66 consoles are hard to find and he used a 67 version :D

It sure is pur-dee! Bummer about it having a Powerglide, but I’ll bet it doesn’t go half bad regardless. Nice equipment including an AM/FM radio with the correct whip, proper early mag-style caps, wood wheel, gauges & knee-knocker, nice colour, plus the California emissions and a black plate are other interesting features. The spare tire looks correct while the tires it’s rolling on look like the tires that might have replaced them circa 1968 (Wide Ovals). Only a few minor things to fix on that car to make it outstanding.

A guy I worked with owned a very nice '67 GTO (400 H.O. - 4-speed) that he paid $14,000 for in the early 90's. He was going to sell it and look for an excellent '66 SS396 for about 18G (this was in the mid-90s). I noticed his GTO recently was resold through Legendarymotorcar.com (I can just imaging what they got for it since they also sold a '70 GS Stage 1 convertible for $105,000 & a '69 Nova SS396 for $70,000).
