It looks like the archives mention dyeing your belts to black is done either with the liquid shoe polish method or the rit dye method. I didnt see anywhere about the chrome or the buckle for the dye method. Since it is metal do I not have to worry about the buckles or the ends. I know the one end will be under the seats but I am worried about the male/female snap together areas. Just seeking advice from someone who has used these methods, I am sure the buckle comes apart but I havent figured that out yet. It probably doesnt matter but I have the deluxe belts, thanks.

I used the shoe polish (8-9 years ago!) on both the black plastic buckles AND the webbing. However, since then someone here showed great results by sanding and polishing the black buckles. Tried it on one and that method is much better.

The shoe polish wipes right off the chrome if that's what you mean, it's not a problem at all.

Oh, almost forgot - stick the belts in the dishwasher to REALLY clean up the webbing before doing this. Apparently they come out like new - soft, pliable like they originally were. I don't think you use soap, just water.

I cleaned seat belts with Simple Green, then rinsed in dishwasher (no detergent), applied Rit Black dye (50-50 with hot water), let sit 1 hour, then reapplied Rit dye mixture, let sit 1 hour. Final rinse in cold water. Came out decent, wish I would have taken a before picture, they were very faded by sun. BTW use dishwasher when spouse is not home.
