- '70 Malibu was a SB, now a BB
- No clue what the tranny was (it was gone at purchase) but it's now a TH400
- 10-bolt 2.56 rear

The car had no driveshaft when we got it.
With all the different shafts out there, is it as easy as just going out and getting a used shaft from a like-car? Anything to look for or be careful about?

Never played much with tranny's or driveshafts... and the time is now here!

I was hoping to pick a used one up locally - bit of a budget here!

Is the TH400 a shorter tail shaft housing or long? Slide in or bolt on yoke?
I believe most of the 2nd gen Camaro shafts are nearly the same length but you might have to buy a new front yoke depending on what you've got in the Chevelle.

TH400 is a short tail.

Yoke is slide in I believe, but that's a good question - haven't really paid that much attention as yet.

Are direct bolt up shafts matching on Monte Carlo's or are they unique size to Chevelles in the 68-72 years?

I would recommend that you measure the driveshaft as explained on the Denny driveshaft website and take that with you to a salvage yard, if that's the route you wish to take. That way you can be sure to get the correct length. Though you may still have to change the tranny yoke depending on the type of transmission it was previously used with.

I replaced my driveshaft with new one from Denny's when I installed Gearvendor on back of my 71's TH400 tranny. Old one is good to go and at the house. Email me if you are interested.
