When I bought my Monte SS 6 years ago I bought it mainly because it had a big motor and a standard 5 speed trans, and it was fast !! It has a Doug Nash 4+1 5 speed in it that works pretty good. My question is,Who is or was Doug Nash ?? Was he a tranny designer ?? Was he a drag racer ?? Is he still alive ?? I have done google searches but it mostly leads to NBA player Steve Nash.I sure would like to get some information on this issue.I keep all info I collect pertaining to my project,I've got 2 big binders full,a scrap book,a small binder, and some collected tech tips on my Lotus 123.

He was a drag racer in the sixties and seventies and apparently has an engineering background/education developing the transmissions he is well known for , as well as some Pontiac intakes and some other not so well known items (I believe).....sold the manufacturing rights to Richmond Gear who after some years sold the rights to Liberty who now makes all of the parts including cases. Dont know his whereabouts now.....

I thought that Richmond still makes these transmissions.

NO .......Only the street version......In both 5 and 6 speed versions , I think.
Fundamentally I would say its inspired by early GM 4 speeds....
G-Force also copied the Nash but added face tooth engagement.......still a Nash IMO............kinda like a Barry Grant carb is really a Holley......

Well is it a B/W, ST-10 or a Ford Top-Loader design, gear-wise??

Like I said.......its based on the GM 4 speeds..........a BW T-10 or Muncie if you will........same shift fork arrangement......actually using sliders and forks that interchange with ST-10s.........it is an "almost" drop in replacement for the GM early 4 speeds but usually requires some tunnel mods for the shifter.
