Perhaps the connecting rod got bent between the inside handle striker plate and the lock barrel. Last year I had someone's kid suddenly grab the shiny chrome door lock knob and jam it up and down a few times to play with it. I didn't think it was a big deal until the door locked every time I closed it too. The key or the inside handle wouldn't then work to unlock it. The bit*h of the problem was trying to take off the inner panel with the door locked shut. I managed to fix it by straightening the rod. That little bastard is not allowed anywhere near my cars now.
