Although temporarily, the 540 is sitting between my 66's frame rails, Victor, Dominator and all under the stock Malibu hood. That said, it looks as though I'll be ordering a steel 2" cowl hood anyway.

Using the shortest solid Moroso motor mounts (62500), a Universal Spinners 16" drop base air cleaner with K&N 3 1/2" Element/Extreme top and cutting a crescent shaped strip out of hoods inner structure, I can in fact shut my hood completely....BUT....Not without considerable contact at the front of the air cleaner. It's not noticeable looking at it, with your hand on the center of the hood, you can feel it hit right before the second latch clicks.

It's sooooo close to being acceptable, I swear I'm considering putting a couple of washer on each of the body bushings. Also thought long and hard about taking a smidgen off the front of the air cleaner where it rests on the carb, but I'd have to "ding" it to clear the front needle/seat assy too.

In the end I've decided to go ahead and get another hood , better to do it now before paint. I like the Goodmark steel 2" cowl, it seems to have the most subtle appearance, almost stock looking, wish something was available a little closer than Georgia. Anybody else using the 2" Goodmark? Any other recommendations? An eBay seller, Tamraz's in Illinois has a 4" cowl listed, I'll call them tomorrow about a 2", not sure who makes theirs. Does anybody know anything about them or their products.

I have to get a hood ordered this week, any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Rowdy, do yourself a favor and get a Glasstech 4" rear facing cowl hood and raise your engine back up an inch or two. You need all the road clearance you can get. Since my son got the Lemons headers the lowest point in the front end is the engine crossmember. Now wheelstands do no major damage to the headers or the pan, believe me this is important. You also need approximately 2" of clearance above the carburetor for the engine to breath and having an air cleaner is also nice on a street car.

That was my concern also. You put the carb on for more airflow and then put the top lid tigh on top of the carb. Raise the air cleaner back up as high as possible. I would go with the highest hood you like the look of. I have a 4 " hood on my car.

I just recently bought my inner fenders from Tamraz on ebay. They are Goodmark pieces and shipped fast.
