In a temporary dumb spell (maybe not so temporary?) I forgot to disconnect my battery while changing out my headlight switch on the 72 SS. Not realizing this could happen, the ground wire made contact with a hot post on the back of the AMP gauge making a brief spark. After I connected the headlight switch & confirmed it worked right, I noticed that the AMP gauge needle is pointing straight down (6 o'clock position)! Did I destroy this gauge? The funny thing is that it still appears to move when RPM's change & demands are made on the system, like fans, lights, etc...any help would be appreciated!

I have seen this before and if the gauge seems to still be registering but 180deg out, just move the needle by hand back to the twelve o-clock position and it should work right.

***UPDATE***

Just as in Dean's situation, my Ammeter needle has mysteriously re-positioned itself in the 12 o'clock direction. Oh, and I do not plan to figure out why! Thanks for all your input guys...
