As the title says.. Does the '68 tailgate fit the rest of the 3rd gens?

I'm looking to buy a 3rd gen Camino and I really like the smooth tailgate on the '68. But if I can't get my hands on a '68 Camino, maybe I at least can find a tailgate and make a swap.

yes it does.
but you could always just remove the back up lights
from the existing tail-gate and weld in metal to close up the holes

Yeah, I know I could do that.. but it seems way easier just swapping the whole thing.

But as I said, I don't even own a Camino... yet. Hope to find one before summer is here

Technically that is the 4th generation El Camino. The '59-'60 were the 1st even though they were built on the big car platform.

I was (still am) under the impression that 59-60=1st gen, 64-67=2nd gen, 68-72=3rd gen, 73-77=4th gen and 78-87=5th gen.

If you're just going by name being used over by GM, not "A body", then what generation Malibu is the late model Malibu?

yup they are interchangeable, my 70 has a 68 tailgate and everything is shaved except the top emblem

I like the looks also of the shaved 68 gate. I plan on filling my back up lights in. Working on it this along with a few other things.
