What is a good price for a used Holley 4779 / 750 double pumper? I want to try one on my new 461 for the street. Trying to avoid new as I am not sure how well it will work. If I knew I would like it, I might look at a new one. I want to be able to shread tires on demand with this build.
What do you think? current carb is a Holley 770 Street Avenger Vac Secondary. New build is a 9.8 to 1 461ci. .541 /.517 .224/[email protected] 284/290 advertised /112 LSA Crower hydrolic flat tappet (01243)
3964290 heads with 2.19 1.72 valves, bowl ported. dual plane, 1.75 headers 4 spd. 3.55 gears
This is a new build that I have not driven yet. should be done in about 2 more weeks. I want more throttle response than I had with the old build.

Old build was 7.8 to 1 454ci. with stock 049 heads
same as above 1 3/4 headers dual plane, 4spd 3.55 gears
Crane .533 /.533 .226 [email protected] .050 282 advertised 108 LSA It Ran O,K. with Street Avenger Carb. nothing to brag about. It was kinda weak down low for a Big Block, and really perked up at around 2500rpm or so than quit at around 5200 or so. (probably over cammed a bit.)

On the street you'd be better off with a carb that many seem to be smaller. It will be much more responsive, and your not going to be giving up what you might think at WOT.

Figure 150 bucks for a used carb and then buy new gaskets and a new power valve.

I run a 4779 on my 496.

Hydraulic roller, 228/238 @ .050, 3.42 gears, 2800 stall.

Bests so far 1.59 60' and 11.88 @ 112+ in the 1/4 mile.

A 750 DP #4779 will run sweet on your combo.

The 750 DP will be just right for your combo. I have a 750HP on mine. 10.5:1 461 with a 236/242 @.050 solid roller turning 6400 rpms. See sig. for best times. A 950HP only picked my car up .03 in the 1/8th.

200 is the most Id pay for it, but Id prefer to be able to look at it locally and know the seller is using it(AKA...it hasnt been sitting on a shelf and needs a kit).

150, as Rick mentioned is pretty typical for these carbs in used form, and more often than not...they have been sitting on the shelf for a while and typically could use a kit. 200 should get you a good one if you are patient
