By just looking the balancer on a 307 would be thin like a half inch thick, like the older 283 and 327.The 350 has either a 6 or 8 inch balancer that is much thicker, maybe an inch and half. If by chance, it has a thick balance but hollow in the back of it, its a 307. If it was 8 inches and thick with small dips on the outside edge and dimples on the front, it would be a 400 (383 stroker).

Another way to tell just by looking down at the engine is to find the engine suffix code located on a pad on the engine block in front of the right (passenger side) cylinder head. You might have to use a screwdriver or rag soaked with degreaser to clean the pad to read the code. There should be a 8-10 digit series of numbers and letters. Look for 3 letters starting with "C", such as "CCA", "CGB", "CJJ", etc which will tell you the exact year, size, horsepower, and transmission type of the engine as it came from the factory. List the code here and someone will be able to tell you which engine you have.....

Sorry, the hollow one is the later 305.
