I need to replace the thermostatic spring in the choke but can't seem to find one. Does anyone know who might sell a new one?
Most advertised have a mount on the forward middle center of the bracket but mine mounts on the rear inboard side. This is from a stock 1968, 396 manifold with a Rochester Qjet. As a last resort It looks like the spring might be removable from the bracket but the stud/screw is pretty tight and I'd rather get the soring already mounted with the bracket. I have another post that describes the choke issue and without knowing exactly the cause, I thought it would be easy to replace the spring to get that possibility out of the way.

I have the same exact setup on my car. I was shocked when I saw what it cost to get these parts. That stuff used to be cheap as dirt.

Fortunately I found my original spring was still in good shape. I only had to buy the stove… Which was like 12 bucks!

not much goes wrong with these things. note the position of eyelet in relationship to the bracket, then put it in the freezer for 20 mins. take it out note the position of the eyelet, it should have moved. Then hit it with a hair dryer or heat gun, see if it winds or unwinds. If it does it's probably OK.

The paint on it doesn't matter.

Choke attached, the problem occured the same way at the same time. Choke "turned off" by wiring it open, the problem did NOT occur at all. One thing in the operation of the choke involves something that uses a set amount of "time". It's the choke coil. There is nothing else in this system that will cause the choke to close after X amount of time or miles. The rest of it is linkage that works off of the choke coil.

I had a choke coil go bad..It stayed open all the time and would never close. I verified this by trying to use it to start my car. I replaced the whole shebang with a kit from these guys:

The whole choke KIT is a little over $25.

I'd at least clean up the rod if you don't get the kit.. There's a reason why GM coated some of the linkage on Qjets with green Teflon.
