This isn't a question about my El Camino, but a general small block question. I have a mid-engine V8 Corvair conversion with a GMPP 350/290 crate engine. The current dipstick and oil pan are set up for a LH (drivers) side location. I have a road race oil pan I got from a V8 Corvair road racer friend of mine that he used to run on his 383 prior to converting to a dry sump.
My question is this, the engine has provisions for a dipstick on either side. The road race pan/windage tray is set up for the right side. I have the one-piece pan gasket that is compatible for either side. Can I use my current tube/dipstick by simply removing and reinstalling on the other side?

Thanks in advance!

I am pretty sure the tubes are different. The drivers side deal uses two tubes, one pressed into the block and then another one goes into that. The passenger side blocks use a single tube. The windage tray might be a problem too but most of them are made to work with either side dipstick.
