Went to Test & Tune yesterday to see if my winter projects would help with ET's. Started out with a fresh track (no rubber down yet) and had a terriable 60' of 2.00 for the first 3 runs and et's in the 12.30's I could not get it to hock.This was a big step backwords for me. My best 60' last fall was 1.71 with et of 11.91. This winter I pulled the turbo 400 and Garret (40 coupe)rebuilt it, changed the stall from a 2400 tci to a 3000 *******, and replaced the 781 heads with with performer rpm's with a 100cc combustion chamber to increase the compression in the motor. So, I was disappointed that my times were worse. But as the day went on the car started to hock and I ended uip with a new best of 1.68 60' and et of 11.66. I think it may still have a tenth or 2 left in it. I am still running 3.31 gears.
Also at test & tune was Bob West's son with his malibu. He is going to be fast just like his dad. His malibu went 11.03 with a 125 shot. Very fast ride for a young man with out a lot of money to put in it. Good job West's!

Awsome! Glad to see a new best and by over .3 tenths too! What tire do you run in your 69'? Did you have to retune your carb for the different head combo?

Congrats Trey, I'm kinda glad I didnt take my car yesterday. Now that there is rubber on the track, I'll be ready next weekend. My son had carburetor issues all day yesterday, he did some suspension upgrades but the carb wouldnt let him take advantage of them. Still not too shabby for my old 454.

Chief, in my experience the new heads you wont need to change the carb, if anything you might be able to drop jet sizes a size or two. Box stock jetting is a good place to start.

I agree Bob,box jetting is pretty much on if you pick the right carb. Crankitup- was the MPH any better with the heads,converter combo? I would assume 2-3 mph gain?

Chief fat nutz, tire size for the track is 275/50/15's MT drag radials. The mph went from 112 to 113-114.

I think the d/a was in the 21-2300ft range also. So not too shabby compared to last falls bests.

Also, when I uncapped the headers it picked up 2 or 3 tenths. It as not made that much difference in the past. Maybe running a little rich.
