When removing some of the A/C system on my Elky, I noticed this alligator-looking clip on the front cowl -- you can see it in the bottom-left of this picture. Is it a contact for the underhood lamp?

The car has a repro hood on it, and no lamp. If this is a contact for the lamp, does that mean my car had a lamp, or did every car have the contact?

Unfortunately for me I never found the build sheet.

That's a ground strap that grounds the hood to the car. Usually found on cars with radios. Underhood lights on Chevelles were the mercury switch type that automatically turned off when you shut the hood.

Chris,

Ground straps and ground clips ensure that all the sheetmetal acts as one piece in unity. The metal acts like a shield to contain RFI (radio frequency interference). Keeping the elements of the shield in place keep you from hearing the spark plug song among others being received on your radio, especially on the AM band.

Ditto on the radio. Check UPC U63, sheet A7 in the AIM. That clip along with the grounding straps were for the radio. Logic would dictate then that no radio, no ground straps or clip. Can't say I've ever seen a 70 without a factory radio but there were some.
