99% sure this kids got it (the Type 2).
Cant get to the Doc for another week or so,

Heard there are pills you can take for this, anyone know anything about this?

Been having episodes where I start seeing the flashing lights, numb feet, weight loss, fatigue weird vision, etc pretty unsettling when you got loose inmates walking around eyeballing you at work. Have always suspected some type of issue so I control what I can through diet but its getting to a point where more needs to be done as time goes by.

Getting old sucks, falling apart at 41 :(

Feedback and more info appreciated

Not good to be suspecting that something is wrong and doing nothing.

And frankly other than telling you to go see a Dr. as fast as your feet will travel, this is NOT the place to get medical advice.

Can't go for 10 days? Why? You guarding Bin Laden or something?

You should go to the nearest emergency room and get checked ASAP.You may be endangering the lives of others as well as your own while driving or working. My wife has been diabetic since childhood ,not something to take lightly. Good luck.

While I don't have it, I have worked with 5 people with it, 2 type 1 and 3 type 2. In addition, my last cat had type 1, gave him shots twice a day for 3.5 years. Definitely go see the doctor right away to be sure. Having seen what people (and cats) can go through, get it under control right away. Best of luck to you.

Doc through ins at work cant see me before then, I have to do it on days off. I have a weird job, they fire for anything even with a med. excuse.

Ive had other realted issues over the years, plenty of blood tests done and they would say "youre fine, too young to have issues"

When I started having the flashing light episodes I kinda figured this was what was going on.

Just wanted feedback on how those pills work, I hate needles thats all.
I watch my diet pretty well but dont think its enough.

+1000. My wife is a doc and is on me all the time re. my diabetes. Runs in family genes. If you care about yourself and family, you would be seeing your doc today. I have had many family members die / go blind because they put it off. Amputate limbs. No joke.

Diabetes is the genesis to many BAD things.

I really watch what I eat and really watch my weight, which is also a major contributor to the severity of diabetes. I am going to get it, I am just trying to minimize the issue.

Pre test prolog - I ran a test on myself to get an understanding of how sugar impacts my weight and diabetes about 6 months ago (yeah I have the test equipment). Weight 165 prior to test. Eating healthy food with occasional fast food once every 2 weeks (it happens when you have kids). I spar, jog, and go to gym 3 times a week. I am blessed that I do not have a sweet tooth. Hence 95% of the time I do not eat deserts and 100% of time have no sugar with my coffee.

The test - I added 2 spoons of sugar to my coffee (two cups a day) for two weeks. Approximately same food / exercising regime during 2 weeks. After two weeks I added 6 pounds. Don't ask my about my diabetes count :( . (Same thing happens when I eat white rice).

I then knocked off the two spoons of sugar in coffee...same food/exercise regime....dropped the 6lbs in 3 weeks. Note it TOOK longer to drop off weight...I attribute that to my diabetes/genes inherited body type.

If you have diabetes in the family or have it yourself, as my wife would say, your are pre-inclined to more weight issues, which has a multiplier affect on your diabetes problems. I validated that for myself, and I was surprised how fast the uptake occurred.

Needless to say I really watch the processed sugar and foods that can break down into the bad sugars (e.g. white rice, etc.) and fast food intake and I am in my mid 40s.

I've been a type 1 diabetic for about 37 years. "Flashing lights" and weird vision could also mean you're getting LOW blood sugar, as having diabetes means you will go high AND low. Low blood sugar can get you in trouble real quick, high blood sugar gets you in trouble in the long run. Typically, however you'll be high with Type 2 and no medication.

As said, get there as soon as you can - however, there's quite a bit you can do on your own that does not involve any meds. Go to the pharmacy, and get a blood glucose meter (they should be free), and pick up a 50-pack of the test strips ($50). CHECK your sugar regularly, and log it - you'll have some real data to bring to the doctor, plus you'll know for yourself if you happen to be getting low and can do something about it. Normal is 80-100, if it's high then exercise is about the only thing that will bring it down other than meds. If you get too low around inmates, you will be endangering more people than just yourself...

If you test and find yourself high, stay away from carbs and eat more plain veggies (not fruit) and lean protein, and try to exercise. At least it will help out until you do get the treatment you need - the longer you wait the more permanent damage you are doing.

Good luck!

Flashing lights" and weird vision could also mean you're getting LOW blood sugar,
The night it happened I ate a half a brownie and 30 min later I was good again. Im not overweight in fact I have a hard time gaining and keeping it on.
I do eat a good diet and workout when possible. Sounds like the rice has got to go though. Thanks :beers:

Could be an allergy or a thyroid issue. I just found out 6 weeks ago that I'm allergic to dairy and it was causing fluctuations in my blood sugar, I was feeling light headed, flashing lights, and run down. I thought I might be hypo-glycemic (low blood sugar). Luckily my mom had an extra blood glucose testing meter that I used for a history for the doc. Ran a few tests thru the doc and found the allergy. Soy milk and a serious change in diet to include more low glycemic foods have helped tremendously and more protein. If you drink sodas, I'd suggest quitting them also, unless their diet sodas, and drinking more water.
For sure, get to the doc, the sooner, the better. 64elkynss

Look up hypoglycemia! That's what I have. I will get the shakes, weird vision, ringing ears (sometimes) and shakey weak feeling legs. Have to have a sugar fix mid morning and I'm fine after that!
But as has been stated, DOCTOR ASAP!!!

Not a single diabetic, Type I or II, in my entire family, maternal or paternal, past or present, so it is doubtful that genetics had anything to do me being diagnosed Type I on March 5, 2003. My symptoms started immediately following a violent car accident that occured October 22, 2003, which apparently had damaged my Pancreas.

I was taken by ambulance because of facial lacerations and knee injuries. The emergency room physicians examined me for "blunt force trauma" to my abdomen, evident by the steering wheel folded around the column, but initially found nothing conclusive. My followup treatment was pretty much limited to removing glass from my cheek.

Almost immediately, I noticed that I was peeing every twenty minutes or so. I neglected to anything about it. At Christmas, my mom bought me the same 501 jeans that she had for the past 20 years. They were two sizes too big. By February, I had lost nearly 45 pounds and had not had a full nights sleep for three months (up to pee every hour). Needless to say, I was irritable. Finally, I was convinced to see a doctor, but not before being literally at deaths door, I mean I was wiped out.

My vision was shot, needing 8+ corrective lenses and was near or below my high school wrestling weight (lost over 50 lbs).

I have been fine since getting my blood sugar under control, but I am insulin dependent, although, I require alot less than any other Diabetic that I have ever met. On occasions that my daily routine is physically demanding, I don't require any at all. However, if I'm lazy and sit around doing nothing or happen to gorge on junkfood, my dependency can easily quadruple.

It's not the end of the world, just an occasional pain in the ass (or the stomach, where I usually stick the needle).

Diabetes isn't the end of the world (Type 1 going on 5 years), just a pain in the butt. Definetely see the doctor ASAP to get checked out. If you tell them the symptoms they can diagnos it or rule it out pretty quickly. If they conclude you have diabetes then over the next month probably 5 or so visits to the doctor to find out the severity. I recommend to all insulin type 1's out there to look into getting the insulin pump. Not a cheap initial investment, but I'd happily take the extra couple of years of my life versus the procharger I could have bought with the money. my wife is a nurse so I get lectured every day and know a fair amount about the disease so if I can help anyone out let me know.

I'm type II since 2000, I've been up and down on the self-care over the years. Up is better.

IMHO, it verges on suicidal to avoid the doc because there might be bad news. That's what I did, stupid me.

If you haven't gone yet get off the duff and do it.
