A friend of mine sent this to me today, had to smile:yes:

Definition of a muscle car

An American muscle car should be a loud, obnoxious, stupid, inappropriate, violent peace of machinery that offends sensible people, depletes the ozone layer, melts polar ice caps, starts fistfights, angers the elderly, swears in public, is seen around tattoo parlors, regularly transports illegal booze and women of ill-repute, all while looking cool as sin on a hot Saturday night.

They were something a bit like that back in the day. Some still are. Now most are tucked away and when they are out they are driven as if Granny was at the wheel. Time to get our L78 car out. Haven't put it through the gears since Wednesday. Don't think the wife will go for the illegal booze, or women of ill repute part though. ;)

A testimony to a lost era of beautiful machines and the simplistic adaptation of one part of the machinery to another,
which we admire alive, to contemplate it's immense power, mingled with a profusion of aromas and sounds, that evokes sentiments of youth,
simpler times, wonder, astonishment, and even fear, at beholding such a magnificent spectacle.

(The above is the combined and slightly modified version of several descriptions of steam locomotives written in the 1800's and by modern restoration experts)

My buddy and I drove my 68 to a cruise last night about 12 or 15 miles from the house. We were just riding down the road and I thought to myself, then told him what I was thinking.
I was thinking if it were back in the day on Saturday night, we would be on our way to the "bootlegger's" to buy some beer, then ride around town till dark, when we are pretty drunk, look for a drag race, make a bet for the half case of beer we haven't drunk yet, win the race, take the Ford guy's beer, go to a party then when the sun comes up head to the house. :D

Just what I imagined it would have been like in the 70's. I born yet.

Maybe I've just watched "Dazed and Confused " too many times, but sounds like the guy who defined musclecar has too.

Fred is 100% on the money about steam locomotives.
There are probably few here who have ever been around any of the really big behemouths of the steam era. But as described above, they really are a magnificent spectale!!! There are a few still in ocassional active service. The Union Pacific Railroad has 2 Very large steamers that are brought out on special ocassions each year. If you EVER get a chance the see the UP's Challenger, DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT miss the opportunity to go see it. It is impossible for me to describe how massive and incredible this locomotive is!!!!!

Through a common friend (another UP employee), I got acquainted with, and became friends with the chief steal locomotive engineer, who is a super guy!
Nobody, but NOBODY is allowed up in the cab of UP's steamers. But Zac and I were!!!
