That freaks me out too.
wife hates snakes, saw one in wood pile outside my cousins house, I was 15 ft behind her and in a split second plowed over me in opposite direction. My cousin was on the ground howling in laughter

With regards to avoiding snakes as a reason to live in -30 degree cold for half the year, I guess I’ve been fortunate. Lived in south Texas and Northern California for most of my life and only saw my first snake in the “wild” a year ago or so. A black and white banded California King snake I believe going across a flower bed in my back yard. Haven’t seen him since.
