I found a rear end and was wondering what you can tell me about it. The owner said he thinks its from an impala but wasnt sure.

DD512G on front of axle tube

3852980N on front side of pumpkin as well as GM3

I'm unsure of the date from those #'s but DD was assigned to Chevrolet full size non posi, (3.31) from 66 through 69. Information from "Chevrolet A Book Of Numbers 1953-1974"

3852980N is a 12-bolt full size passenger car and 65-67 Nova casting - apparently for leaf springs. The DD gear code, as jaf6738 stated, is for full size cars. I believe the GM3 is a mold casting ID. I've seen numerous GMx numbers on the same type rear ends and other similar components.
