1970 Chevelle
I'm restoring this car and soon will remove the windshield to address some light surface rust on the inside of the windshield cowling. The VIN plate also has some light rust. Is it OK to paint the VIN plate with the same semi-gloss paint I'm going to use on the cowl? It appears to have been painted by the factory.

Yes and they pushed seam sealer or something like it in the trim tag rivets too.

I haven't touched my VIN tag (although it could use it) but when I repainted my cowl, I used chemical paint stripper to get multiple layers of crappy old paint off the cowl tag and then carefully sprayed it along with the cowl). It looks the best it has in the 34 years I've owned the car.
