And finally before i paint my dash should i paint it in somekind of adhesion premoter or primer or just go straight to the paint..Thanks any help would be appreciated im sorta a newbie at this

Clean
use 2000 grit or higher
clean
Primer
paint.
Then mist from afar to get the texture, it works for me every time and it lasts. I dont have much experience with JB weld. Maybe someone else will chime in.

To duplicate the texture go to hardware/big box store and go to the plumbing department. Get yourself a tube of the epoxy for plumbing repairs. It comes in maybe three different set times such as 5 minutes/20 minutes a 1/2 hour. Need the two different parts together and then press the putty into a good part of the dash. The texture will be transferred to the putty. You can use the hardened putty to recreate the texture. Just spray the epoxy putty with a release agent such as Pam cooking spray and press into the wet JB Weld. Basically you are just making a mold.

For paint use SEM Color Coat Landau black. It is the closest match you will find. No need to sand before using this paint. Just clean it really good with denatured alcohol or something similar. I then like to use a light coat of Bulldog Adhesion Promoter made by Klean-Strip. Finally spray on the SEM in VERY LIGHT coats. You will get the best finish using 4-5 very light coats compared to 1 or 2 heavy coats. You won't lose any of the texture or grain detail this way.

I freshened up my dash using this process and it turned out great. Can't tell it was painted at all. Can see pics through the link in my signature.

Well turns out my dash was already painted at some point so ive sanded it down a little bit and fixed soem minor cracks with filler..At this poitn im almost ready to paint and i have some questions..I couldt find that Sem landau black paint but i did hear someone mention krylon satin black..Is this a good quality paint to paint my dash? Also i was wondering if a coat of acryllic will help the paint last up to the sun and other elements..Here's some pictures of what im talkign about....

Ive heard of some having luck with krylon paint but ive never tried it. Interior paint from your local parts store works to. I work at AutoZone and we have Rustoleum Vinyl paint its pretty good. And make sure to use a flat clear if you dont want it extra shiny.

That Krylon might be fine for the plastic dash. I don't know about the vinyl dash pad though. SEM is really the way to go if you got the time to order it and a few bucks.

I've ordered from this place and they ship out very fast from CT... http://www.levineautoparts.com/semlanblacpl.html

Don't know if its the best, but a paint pen gave me respectable results. You can buy one for $3-4 at a hobby shop.

Krylon silver leafing pen. For the silver rim that goes all the way around the whole dash I used "kentucky chrome" spray paint and masked off the entire dash and sprayed it. For the gauge rims I used a paint pen. Make sure you brace your elbows and go slow...but don't stop once you start and try and do it in one stroke.

I used that paint you asked about...the KRYLON Fusion for plastic. Turned out great.

wow that looks greatt..I tryed my hand at the leafing pen and it comes out verywell, but on a closer look at my dash im not really happy with the way the paint came out..im thinkin i might try and strip it down and try agian..Does anyone know a good way to get the dash down to bare plastic with out hurting the grain on the plastic..Im looking for an easy way to get the paint of without having to do a ton of sanding..
