I'm sure this is an elementary question, but how do you remove the dash pad on a 1972 chevelle. I have removed all visible screws (6) which hold the gauge cluster to the dash pad. The driver's side of the dash pad is now lose, but the rest is not moving. I'm sure there are some fasteners somewhere that I don't see. The Chiltons that I have is not much help.

What am I missing?

You will probably have to lower your instrument panel to get to all of the speed nuts. There are at least 6-8. maybe also remove the glove box liner depending on how flexible you are. Take the speed nuts off and it should lift right off, make sure you get them all.

What the hell are you guys talking about?? He only wants to take off the dash PAD! The ONLY hidden screws are the two that are hidden by the normally closed glove compartment door, as DN mentioned. After ALL 6 screws are removed, lift up on the rear edge (the edge closest to you) and pull the pad TOWARD you to disengage the clips which hold the front edge of the pad to the windshield/cowl area. That's it. Easy.

I agree with obsessed. It must be a totally different design than '68 or '69. I've got a '68 and the first time I did it, I did not drop the steering column. Nearly broke the dash trying to get it out to the point I could get my hands back to remove the speed nuts on the dash pad. I've got the scars on my hands to show for it.

The next time I removed the 3 nuts to drop the column, sat a box there to hold the steering wheel, and the whole job was SO much easier.

Jerry is right. It's simple on a 72. Follow his directions and it'll come right off.

Don't lose those clips that go in the pad that clip it in place. They are hard to find...

If those clips do come off, the two long ones go on the outermost positions. The four shorter ones go in the four middle positions...
