I would like to remove the lens on my 70 SS gauge cluster to polish out the scratches. It appears to be glued or melted on at several contact points. How do I safely remove it and whats the best way to reinstall it?
I drilled out the center part of each spot that was melted over. Not very deep though, then popped the lense loose. To reinstall I heated a straight razor then pressed it over the drilled out spots once lens was back on. Worked great for me
I have always used a solder iron with a tip just smaller than the stub. Heat it up and pry gently to pop it off. To reattach, push down into the stub with the soldering iron to spread it out. Doesn't take much heat go slow and be gentle. If you break it replacements ain't cheap.
