I believe the Ground Up website has a good reproduction of a 70 dash removal and reinstall in their “tech” section.

You can get some 5 or 6" long bolts 1/4 x 24 threads, I think. (you will want to verify threads as I did this a long time ago) put in the outer two bolt holes. Then I would recommend a bungie cord to hang around the mirror bracket to center brace by AC duct to keep from sagging and breaking the dash. After you drop the steering column you should be able to then slide it away from the firewall to work on.

ss396>tech>ssdash>1970-1972. OR type in dash removal 1970ss chevelle. and you should find it listed under ss396….40 some pages if you print it, from old GM files or if you can’t find it PM me with your email address and I will forward it to you. Before you drop the steering column BE SURE you carefully disconnect the fine wire that goes to the column shift indicator.
