The emergency brake dash light stays on after I knock the brake off. It does get dim but is still on. Is there any way to adjust the switch on the brake or do I have some other problem here? It is on a 72 SS. Thanks for any help.

That light runs to both the parking brake and also to the proportioning valve (on the frame rail below the master cylinder)It is for safety to let you know about an imbalance in the brake pressures. You might have some moisture in the connector that is causing the dim light. Cleaning up things should help. The light comes on if it gets gounded by the parking brake or the prop. valve.

Thanks Bill, I will look again and see if I can find anything that does not look right with the parking brake. I did not know about the valve.I guess the way I let the car set for months at a time the valve could have gone bad or some other part of the brake system. I did not even put tags on the car for an 8 year period and have just now turned 60 thousand miles. I guess not using a car is very hard on things like valves and other mechanical things. Thank you for the information .
