I have a GM 290hp crate engine, turbo 350 trans and 3:25 gears. Right now it's a stock stall. What would be a good stall for this motor. It's a dog down low and then gets up and goes. Cruise at 60mph is around 2500rpm and 70mph is around 2900rpm. I was thinking of the B&M 2400 Holeshot. Whats your input?

I got 2:73 gears in my 72 and a 2800 stall. it runs about 2200 at 60 mph. I thought maybe my stall was alittle high but its been working great for 11 years.

ANything in that 2200-2400 range would work nicely. Mild engine and just enough additional stall to help the launch and still excellent street manners.

I always went 1000 rpm higher than the lowest number on the cam/intake RPM range

in other words if your cam is rated:

1200-5500 then use a 2200,
3500-7200 then use a 4500,

mine is rated:
4300-8500 and I use a 5300

this is ball park, results may vary, but its been close now since 1989.

A 2800 should work well. If your 70 MPH cruising speed is already 2900 RPM's then you could even go with a 3000 RPM converter for a little more launching power without affecting your cruising RPM's. Keep in mind that if you have a 3000 converter this doesn't mean that it won't move the car at anything lower than 3000, it simply means that under hard acceleration the converter will lock at around a certain RPM. Even with a converter that has a higher advertised stall than what your car normally cruises at, the converter will still lock at lower RPM's under mild driving conditions. Also, if you're engine is putting out 290 HP, then a 3000 converter will only put your lockup at around 2700 anyway.

Thanks guys. I'm in the process of building a twin turbo for the car also. It will be a year or 2 away and will need a converter. With that in mind I'll stick with the 2400 because of the extra power. Sounds good. My last engine I had the old Comp 280H cam with a 2400 and 2:73's and loved it. When My tranny blew I had it rebuilt and at the same time put a 9" rear in with 3:25's. I asked for the same ammount of stall ,but He put in a stock one. He says it's 1000 over stock. No way...I tap the gas and the car moves at 1500rpm. Thanks for the info.
