So, I created an ad to sell my (16) 12v AGM batteries used in my solar setup (only used 1 year). I immediately get a text that this person is interested asking if he can send a google code to verify that I'm real. I'm at a loss as I've never heard of such a thing. So I immediately think this is a scam of some sort. So I tell the person sure, send a code. So he sends a google code and I send him the code for verification. Now everything goes silent. No more contact.

Okay, now I'm concerned, so I start looking for scams with google voice and low and behold this comes up....

Okay, now I'm pissed. So I go through the directions in the article and kill the number.

These damn crooks are taking advantage of any little thing they can.

So, Be aware!

A scammer got me on a Duke Energy call to my cell, I'm on the Duke cont. list for my customers a/c rebates and sometimes get calls from Duke, 2 days after my wife was diagnosed with some really bad cancer and I hadn't slept in 2 days I get a call from Duke Energy ( on caller ID) while working on a home that was getting a rebate, caller/scammer said a crew was in route to turn my power out ( wife mails the bills out) so I need to pay $2xx so I paid over the phone but figured it out while I was still on the phone, long story but still got screwed so watch for that scam too

I recently posted a part wanted ad on the Yenko Camaro Forum (as well as TC) and I get this response with a pic of the exact part I needed...deep groove 1967 L78 water pump pulley (p/n 3862774)...RARE! He only wanted $55, so I immediately thought this must be too good to be true. But I communicated with him and tried to send him money thru paypal, and it would not work. So, he gave me another email address....I was getting suspicious. But I tried that email and it no workie either!!! Then, just out of coincidence I notice another thread discussing "scams" and I read through it, and wouldn't you know it, the SAME guy had scammed multiple others, so he had just been banned from the forum! A few days later I get an email from the slimebag asking me if I still wanted the pulley? LOL!

So, be careful out there! I got lucky and avoided that scam, but I was sooo close!

Attempted to sell my Harley via CL. No surprise that I quickly received an offer to purchase from someone in California saying they were interested and wanted to send me a check. I solely used CL messaging and do not give out my phone number or email address. Did I mention I live in TX so I'm guessing there's no bikes for sale in California. I REPEATEDLY told them that it SHALL be a cashier check or no deal. So I provided my mailing address for the "cashier's check"; I did receive a check via overnight FedEx and in the memo line it said "mortgage payment" and the check wasn't a cashier's check, as I directed for terms of sale, or even a certified check for that matter. It also provided instruction upon cashing the check such as calling a number and arranging for shipper to pick the bike up. Needless to say, I placed the damn fake check in a corner and never attempted to cash it or anything. It's been over 8 months now since receiving that check and the Harley was sold nearly 8 months ago to a local Harley enthusiast through FB Marketplace. Nothing but scammers on CL! I'm waiting to see how long it takes for FB Marketplace goes in the same direction as CL.

I rarely ever sell stuff (mostly give it away to someone in need), but I thought I'd try and I learned the hard way not to put my telephone number in there. This is the last time I'll try to sell something on CL.

Yeah, I've received the same cashier check scam attempts as well - I just send 'em to the trash and move on.
